Word from Our Elders: For 2014

We started the year 2014 together at Bangsar Gospel Centre with a worship service and the church elders sharing the vision for the direction of the church.  The theme remains the same from 2013 which is “To Know God, To Love God and to Serve Him”

However, while 2013’s focus was on positioning, which was about equipping ourselves and creating areas of outreach for all age groups, this year’s focus will be on mobilising God’s people for the harvest field.

“36 When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. 37 Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. 38 Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”  (Matthew 9: 36-38)

Below is the word from the church elders;

A Mobilized People with a New Heart and a New Spirit

We in the leadership call year 2013 the year of positioning in BGC as we sought to start or further develop our outreach to our surrounding communities. To achieve that, the leadership was united in prayer and desire to position ministries and outreach points that would cater to groups of all ages within our surrounding communities, whilst not neglecting to continue our support for the local and overseas missions that we were already involved with.

Francis reminded us on New Year’s Day that the Lord has called us to take our positions, to stand firm and watch the Lord’s victory (2 Chronicles 20:17). It is indeed such a comfort to know that we have the Sovereign Almighty God on our side. He is the One fighting the battle for us and we are assured from God’s own Word that He will always preserve His name and He will always preserve His own.

Yet, even though the Lord fights the battle, our call to take our position and to stand firm requires us to not run away from the battlefield. If we run away from the battlefield, we will never get to see the victory of our great God and what a loss that will be to our Christian journey. Yet, to be confident and faithful in taking our positions and standing firm in the battlefield requires us to know and experience intimately who our Lord is and what He has done for us.

Therefore, in 2014, the leadership is encouraging all in BGC to come and join us in the Lord’s call for us to know, to love and to live for our God. The only way to love Him is to know Him intimately by constantly meditating on His Word and by spending much time in prayer and conversation with our Lord and building our relationship with Him. The best way to love Him is to live for Him and be available for His service daily.

In Ezekiel 36, the Lord promised a new heart and a new spirit to the rebellious nation of Judah so that they would be God’s people again and would again experience the goodness of God. As Christians, we are so privileged because we have been given a new heart and a new spirit as a result of the finished work of our Lord Jesus Christ on the cross of Calvary and we now experience God’s grace and goodness every day.

Yet, there are times that we may have failed to appreciate how our new heart and our new spirit was meant to be truly life transforming and must result in us a desire to bring much glory to our great God, no matter what circumstances we may be in.

This 2014, we encourage each one in BGC to come and grow and serve with us as we continue to ask the Lord to strengthen our new heart and our new spirit so that we are can be mobilized to take our position and to stand firm in the battle for the souls of the lost, in proclaiming the kingdom of our Lord Jesus and His return and to see for ourselves the victory and deliverance of our great and mighty Lord.

To God be the glory!!!

In Christ’s love,

Min Fook, on behalf of BGC Elders
